Our Location The beautiful villages of Omori and Kuratau are located on the shores of South-western Lake Taupo. They are approximately 17km from Turangi on State Highway 41. This beautiful part of the world is perfect for a holiday and provide a great base for exploring the Central Plateau including Tongariro National Park, Mt Ruapehu and the Tongariro Crossing. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing takes about 7–8 hours and hikers will cross between two active volcanoes of Tongariro National Park. The crossing is highly rated by tourists as amongst the 10 best walks in the world. The Tongariro Crossing is a spectacular adventure set in a pristine alpine environment. Click this link to discover more. Alpine Skiing Whakapapa on Mount Ruapehu is a 45 minute drive from Omori/Kuratau. Whakapapa on the northern side of Mt Ruapehu and is the largest ski area in New Zealand. Turoa is about 70 minutes drive and is accessed through Ohakune on the Southern side of the Mountain. Rafting on the Tongariro River The Tongariro River is one of New Zealand’s most well-known rivers and is famed world-wide for it wonderful trout fishing and rafting adventures. Omori/Kuratau Croquet Club The Croquet Club meets on Tuesdays at 1pm at the Omori Croquet Green all year round. Visitors are encouraged to join us or use the facility at any other time by visiting the shop to collect the key. Check out this link at: Ladies Crafts (Community Centre) Every second Monday morning at 10 am to 12 pm ladies in the area meet to share their knowledge and skills in a wide variety of crafts and enjoy each others company. Morning tea and fresh baking is organized in advance. Cost for the craft morning is $2.00. For more info check out this link. Indoor Bowls (Community Centre) Indoor bowls is held every Thursday evening at 7.00 pm. Bowls evenings are very informal and provide an ideal way of getting to know the community. Experience is not required as the majority of the attendees could be classed as novices. Click this link to discover more. Pot Luck Dinner (Community Centre) Held on the last Friday of the month. Each person is asked to bring either a main course and/or a desert to put on a communal table. A charge of $2.00 per person is made to support the halls operation costs.
